Autumn Fudge Blog Series - Blog 2 - Salted Caramel Fudge
Welcome to the second blog in our Autumn Fudge blog series. In this blog, we’re sharing information about our second Autumn Fudge Flavour - Salted Caramel Fudge!
Who invented the flavour Salted Caramel?
Salted Caramel has been extremely popular in the United States for a long time, however, its popularity is growing in the United Kingdom. According to the Independent Salted Caramel can be traced back to France where a chocolatier called Henri Le Roux formed the sweet and salty flavour of Salted Caramel!
Why is Salted Caramel so delicious?
It’s to do with layering and ratios. The sweet caramel is delicious because it sends signals to the brain about energy and calories and the saltiness is addictive because it’s a flavour enhancer. It’s important to get the quantities of both sweet and salty just right for maximum impact!
Did you know that the flavour of Salted Caramel is physically addictive?
The University of Florida conducted a study that found when humans eat something sweet, salty or fatty, the brain releases endogenous opioids which is similar to heroin-like chemicals and because salted caramel combines all three flavours, it becomes even more addictive! The University of Florida found Salted Caramel causes something called ‘hedonic escalation’ which is when your brain can taste new flavours with each bite so your body craves more of the taste. Basically, what we’re saying is that we don’t blame you if you become addicted to our Salted Caramel Fudge, especially during the colder months, it’s scientifically addictive!
